What Linnea’s Reading

Every night, my husband and I each read at least two books to Linnea before bed. She’s got quite a few in her room to choose from, but here are a few that she’s enjoying lately.

Dr. Seuss’s ABC

She just loves it. I’m thinking about buying the Oceanhouse Media’s iPad app version.

Sandra Boynton’s Little Pookie books.

She even asks for them by name. “Blue Hat Green Hat by San’ Boynton.” Sandra Boynton books are a favorite in our house. All of them are just wonderful.

What have you been reading to/with your child?

Guess I need to shave

Had an awesome morning today. Linnea was in a pretty good mood.  I even managed to put away some laundry while she was in the room. Okay, so some Alien Buddies on the iPad may have been involved… Anyways, we’re on the floor of the living room playing with Duplos and she looks at my legs with this concerned look on her face. There was a bit of stubble on them so I informed her that there was hair on my legs. She turns around and grabs a comb she’d been using on her doll and started combing my leg!

Silly goose.

Linkety links and snooping in houses

It’s almost time to start thinking about Christmas/holiday season stuff. Found a site that has a good list of stocking stuffers for the toddler and preschool set. I especially liked the matchbox cars, train accessories, Piggy Paint, silly straws, wind-up toys and cute band-aids. – Secret Mommy

Watercolors, glue and salt! Sounds like something Linnea would love. Painting is her favorite thing to do. I’m just missing clear glue. Plenty of white glue, but no clear. Easy enough to pick some up. – Sweet Happy Life

Awesome DIY latch board. I think Linnea would have a lot of fun with this. – DomesticEsq

The most organized minivan I have ever seen. I’m rather jealous. – The Castro Family Happynings

And there wasn’t actual snooping, but this weekend we did see some houses that were featured in the area’s Parade of Homes. We found some ideas that I think we’d like to add to our own home. I enjoyed some of the oversized moldings and closet doors. There were also some fabulous bathroom tiling and various built-ins abounded. Also, carpeting was very popular. It did make us wonder if the beige/brown stone bathroom tile is going to look dated in 10/15 years. We like a lot of it, but it’s SO overdone.

Times flies, doesn’t it?

Oh crap, I can’t believe I haven’t posted in a month. Oh wait, yes I can.

Had a fabulous time last night at Craft Night. Bunch of women gathering together to gossip, craft, and have a night free from kids is wonderful. It was going to be monthly, but now that plan is to do every other week. Loving it. And it’s a great way to actually get stuff on Pinterest done! I finally put Linnea’s going home outfit in a shadow box and I like how it turned out.

This Top 35 Most Pinteresting Moms board has some of the funniest women ever to blog.

I’m still loving my Next Issue app for the iPad.

Also, naps are great.

Time flies! Especially when working out.

Oh crap, where has the time gone?  I recently joined my local YMCA (kind of funny as I’m rather agnostic/atheist) and have been doing a good job of going at least 3 times a week.

I love having that kid-free time in the morning. I drop L off at the daycare there and get to spend some time rockin’ out to music and reading a book on my Nook while using the treadmill. Definitely makes the rest of the day go by better. And hopefully will help my much-needed weight loss (which needs to be its own post, methinks). Working out has also been helping my moods. I decided to use MyFitnessPal to track food and exercise and I’m hoping it will pay off.

And in other news, I can’t wait for my 2nd Wittlebee box to get here. Supposed to be delivered today. Will have to post the goods when it gets here.

Pinterest Activity: Contact Paper Art

I’m a crazy Pinterest freak. Love love love it. I know others have gotten over it, but I still haven’t.

I pinned this contact paper collage activity from Play Create Explore. It was a link off a post about activities to do with 1-4 year olds. Linnea had a lot of fun with it as I just grabbed a few things from the craft shelves.

Just grabbed construction paper and quickly cut out shapes.

Here we added glitter, foam shapes, stickers, and craft sticks.

All in all, a quick and cheap activity with a minimum amount of mess. Win.

Panic

I had that moment that every mother fears today. I couldn’t find my child. I was in Barnes and Noble and turned my back for a second and when I turned around, L was nowhere to be found. I didn’t quite panic then, I calmly looked around where we had been, staying by the front in case she made a break for the doors. But nothing. I finally asked a clerk to help me and we quietly made out way down the middle of the store, to the kids’ section. Nothing. We were going to call a Code Adam and just as I’m giving the clerk a description of L, another woman tells me there’s a child with that description in the toys.

And yes, sitting quietly, playing with some Vtech toys in a quiet aisle, is Linnea. I can’t tell you how happy I was to see her.

But now that she’s asleep, I feel like it’s hitting me that I lost her. I lost my daughter in a store. I found her, but still, I lost her.
